Book Blurb: What would you sacrifice to save the one’s you love? To save the one who holds your heart? To save the world?
Kenley Grayson is all too familiar with these questions.
After Earth is thrust into its first intergalactic war with an unknown race called the Bringers, our military forces begin to suffer heavy losses. Desperate for a solution, the Allied Federation issues a worldwide draft for every able seventeen-year-old to enlist. As Kenley turns seventeen, she finds herself thrown into the very war that took her older brother’s life.
This year’s draft is a little different than in the past though. A new program, known as the Magnus Project, has been introduced, and only the best and brightest qualify. Kenley is amongst a select few whom are chosen to join this elite group of soldiers, and as a part of this project, undergoes a modification procedure that leaves her and her peers endowed with powers beyond their wildest dreams.
As Earth continues in its struggle against the Bringers, Kenley is transported to a high-tech training facility, the Magnus Academy, to prepare for the major battle that lies ahead. It’s here that she meets the California heartthrob, and son of a legendary war hero, Landon Shaw. As unexpected feelings toward Landon begin to develop, Kenley wonders if this is the right time or place for romance to bloom, especially when those feelings start to interfere with her training.
With the weight of the world on her shoulders, Kenley is constantly reminded of how important she and the rest of the Magnus cadets are to the fate of humanity. She is one of the Modified, Earth’s last line of defense against utter destruction.

She has only a fortnight to complete her mission and will be accompanied by Xander Luna, the tribe's most feared enforcer. If Morgan fails, her life is forfeit. Because Xander is as lethal as he is loyal, and no one—not even this beautiful, passionate renegade—will distract him from his mission. Character Interview
with Morgan Montgomery
by J.T. Geissinger
An Ikati shape-shifter able to turn to vapor or panther and also having the very powerful gift of suggestion, Morgan’s rebellious nature has gotten her into trouble on more than one occasion. Today we chat about food, vacations and shoes.
Question: What would most embarrass you?
Answer: (Laughing) I’m way more easily pissed off than embarrassed, so I don’t know. Maybe if I had to sing in public. The thought of doing Karaoke makes me queasy.
Question: What five words best describe you?
Answer: Passionate. Tough. Hot-tempered. Complicated. Flawed.
Question: What do you loathe?
Answer: (Her face darkens at this question.) Rules. All kinds of rules. For me, a rule is always made to be broken.
Question: What do you love?
Answer: (Smiling now.) Well…I’m fond of a certain assassin named Alexander. Apart from him, I love moonlight and summer storms and shoes. God, I love shoes. Shoes are my kryptonite; I will literally become weak-kneed at the sight of a pair of Louboutin’s.
Question: What’s your favorite food?
Answer: Since moving to Kadavu…abalone. Xander and I devour them raw right after harvesting them from the volcanic rocks in the shallow water of the bay. Sweeter and more tender than oysters, they’re divine. My second favorite food is caviar, but I haven’t had that in a while! There’s only one main grocery store on this island!
Question: If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Answer: Here! Kadavu is the fourth-largest island in the Fiji island chain, and it’s got to be the single most beautiful place on earth. Crystal waters, pristine rainforest, untouched beaches…I hope I’ll never have to leave this place.
Question: Driving or flying?
Answer: I’m a creature of the earth, darling. Driving, for sure. (Smirks.) Running is even better, especially in panther form.
ABOUT J.T. GEISSINGER
Blog || Twitter || Facebook
A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed "book addict," J.T. Geissinger didn't realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.
Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow's Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.
Marlene sold the manuscript, initially titled The Skinwalker's Daughter, to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists for Fantasy Romance in both the US and the UK within weeks of publication, Shadow's Edge is the culmination of the refusal to give up (some would say grow up) with the staunch belief that all good things come to those who wait, and sometimes to those who wait longest.
Book one of the Night Prowler novels, Shadow's Edge will be followed by Edge of Oblivion in October, and Edge of Surrender in spring 2013.

#04 Wishful Wednesdays featuring The Last Witch by Debbie Dee

Wishful Wesnesday is my own little version of "Waiting On Wednesday". Every two weeks, I'll pick a topic or genre and list a few upcoming books (or book) that I'm anticipating the release for. This week, it's going to be a special "book spot" for The Last Witch by the awesome Debbie Dee, who was nice enough to share a guest post featuring the backstory for the Incenega Witches and an excerpt from the book.
Feel free to join in, grab the banner, and/or share your WoW or Desperately Wanting Wednesday lists with me.

In THE LAST WITCH, for generations the Incenaga Witches have been forced to use their power to fulfill the wishes of others until they are drained of their magic and left to die. Desperate to protect his infant daughter - the last surviving witch - Emmeline’s father escapes with her to the forests where he vows to keep her hidden from the world and from the truth. Sixteen years later, Emmeline is discovered and finds herself in the grip of a traitor who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means abusing her power until she dies. As she fights to regain her freedom she is faced with a choice between a prince who offers a lifetime of security and a common gamekeeper who has no idea of her power, but offers his heart.
But who can she trust when her power can be used against her?
By Debbie Dee
I like to begin my stories in the thick of action, in the moment when someone is forced to make a life changing decision. It is this decision that sets the course for the rest of the character’s journey and makes for an exciting story. But what about all the events that led up to that decision? The backstory? So often, the plot is driven by what happened before “the story” ever began, and yet it can slow the pacing of a novel if too much of it incorporated. As an author who loves to day dream about every detail of my character’s lives, I often struggle with how much backstory to include and how much to cut. Pacing is essential and yet character development is just as important.
The history of the Incenga Witches was a backstory that was instrumental to Emmeline’s upbringing, but was not essential for understanding her story. I was thrilled when Suz asked me to share some of the history because it was one of those tough cuts every author battles with.
It began with a powerful sorcerer who fell in love with a young maiden. He spent a great deal of time trying to impress her with his magic, but no matter his efforts, she did not return his affection. She loved another, but kept her love inside for fear the sorcerer would act out of jealousy.
Enraged at her denial, the sorcerer called all the townspeople together and cast a curse on the maiden for all to see and hear. Because he had planned to share his power with her, he proclaimed her cursed to possess a power greater than his own but without the ability to control it. She would be forced to obey the demands of any master who ruled over her and have no choice but to grant their every desire. She may have denied him, but she would never have the luxury to choose for herself again. He was so pleased with the irony of his curse that he declared the daughters of her womb would endure the same curse as well.
Frightened, the girl ran away from everyone she knew and loved. But the legend was born and the quest to find her had begun. Men searched far and wide to control the new and powerful witch. Women hoped to use her as a miracle worker. Soldiers sought to use her to win wars. But what the sorcerer did not know, and would never have wished upon his lost love, was the death his curse would create. Not just for the girl whose life would be drained each time her power was forced from her, but for the millions she would kill to grant a tyrant’s wish.

Debbie Dee recently moved to southern Idaho with her husband and three children where she is learning how to be a country girl in her favorite pair of blue heels. She adores fairy tales and happy endings, but secretly crushes on the bad guy now and then. As a dedicated musician who practices way too much, she never expected writing would sweep her off her feet until she jotted down a scene from a daydream, which turned into two scenes, which turned into a messy house and her first novel. Since then she hasn’t been able to let a day go by without writing.
