#030 Follow & Feature: Book To Movie Adapaptation, Nervous Or No?!

THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

That would probably be the Chemical Garden Trilogy by Lauren DeStefano. These books are wonderfully gothic dark stories involving genetics, danger, and heart pounding romance that I would almost be afraid that the vision I had in my head wouldn't necessarily match the version a supposed film adaptation my try and portray. I mean, I'm not saying that all book to film adaptations are horrible, I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and Water For Elephants, but there are some that have just fallen incredibly flat and I would hate to see a series of books that I connect with on such an emotional level not be represented in the best possible way that it can and should be. Twilight I'm looking at you.

What book to movie adaptation would make you nervous?

  4. I completely agree with you! The Chemical Garden Trilogy would be a good one to mess up with. They'll have to make it a dark movie.

  7. I totally agree -- the Chemical Garden trilogy would be difficult to capture on screen, especially because so much of the story is in her head.  It could be a visually beautiful movie though, if it's done by the right director.  I'm a new follower!  Here's my FF: http://writergrrlreads.blogspot.ca/2012/04/follow-friday-2.html

  8. Interesting answer. This is the first I've seen of the chemical garden trilogy. I liked it, but I really wasn't a huge fan of this series though.

  9. I didn't actually like the adaptation of Water for Elephants but love The Hunger Games.  I think it is just so hard to tell which will be good.  I think I get nervous with all book adaptations when I really loved the book.

  10. I haven't heard of these books but I can see how it would be hard to adapt them to movies. I did like Hunger Games in movie form. Thanks for stopping by. New follower.

Exactly! It's not that I don't want my favorite books to be adapted into movieform, it's just that I don't want them to suck and most movie-adaptions DO exactly that. v_v

Twilight was freaking atrocious! I agree that THG and Water For Elephants were good adaptations.  I haven't read The Chemical Garden series yet, though it is on my TBR.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  14. Yeah, it kind of was. lol. I really enjoyed THG and Water for Elephants, I thought they were cast wonderfully well and were as true to the books as a film adaptation would allow. Ooh, you really should read The Chemical Garden series, Wither and Fever are definitely two of my favorite books.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

  15. This is true about Twilight, some of the casting was definitely off and then they messed up a lot, changing things and leaving things out. Ugh.

Aw, I always enjoy visiting your blog, it's a lot of fun. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

  16. Hi, thanks so much for the follow, I hope you enjoy visiting the blog when you can. *g* I always like meeting new people and gaining new followers, along with getting to know them.
THG was so incredibly good and I was happy to see that they were able to keep the movie as close to the book as they did. But, for me, I'd be terribly worried over the adaptation to film for Wither and Fever. They are some of my favorite reads and they're just so amazing. You should totally give Wither a chance, its just so fantastic.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  17. Oh, I'm sorry you didn't like the film adaptation for Water for Elephants, I thought it was really well cast and beautiful. I fell in love with it. THG was fierce, though!

Thanks for stopping by the blog.

  18. Oh, I have such an emotional connection to the Chemical Garden Trilogy. I thought it was so unique, daring, and wonderfully written. I'm sorry that you weren't such a huge fan of it.

But, thank you so much for stopping by the blog. I hope you have a super terrific weekend!

  19. I agree that it would be a visually stunning movie thought because of the atmosphere of the story, but I wonder if they would have her to keep a journal or if there would be a lot of voiceovers. I just don't see that really happening too well.

Aw, thank you so much for the follow and for visiting the blog. I hope you have a super fantastic weekend! :)

  20. I think that any series with a lot of fans (like Wither) will have people nervous for the film adaptation.  New follower :)  My FF Post

  21. Wither is such a phenomenal book, I have a strong emotional connection to this series in general. I love the dark gothic atmosphere. It's just a really different and unique story.

Aw, thank you so much for the follow. I hope you have an awesome weekend! :)

  22. They're so good and original and definitely unique in the story they have to tell. The world building and atmosphere is beautifully dark and gothic. And the story is filled with rich complexity.

Thank you, so much for stopping by the blog.

  25. I think you're right about this, definitely. But, then again, the proof is in Hollywood and so many of their bad book to film adaptations. If they only had a few more good ones, right?! lol.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for the follow. I am returning the favor. :)

  33. Hehe funny you mention Twilight!! I love those movies, I think they tried to stay close to the books! But see? It's always something personal and everyone has a different taste :) Happy Weekend!

  34.  Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm following you now too!

Twilight was mush. The movies got better as it went along but it always looked so campy. I'm not as worried for The Host though. I just finished reading Water for Elephants. Was their casting of Reese Witherspoon weird to you? I always thought of her character as younger..

  35. Agreed on Twilight. And Harry Potter - they left out so much! *cough cough WINKY*
