#030 Follow & Feature: Book To Movie Adapaptation, Nervous Or No?!

THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

That would probably be the Chemical Garden Trilogy by Lauren DeStefano. These books are wonderfully gothic dark stories involving genetics, danger, and heart pounding romance that I would almost be afraid that the vision I had in my head wouldn't necessarily match the version a supposed film adaptation my try and portray. I mean, I'm not saying that all book to film adaptations are horrible, I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and Water For Elephants, but there are some that have just fallen incredibly flat and I would hate to see a series of books that I connect with on such an emotional level not be represented in the best possible way that it can and should be. Twilight I'm looking at you.

What book to movie adaptation would make you nervous?

#026 Follow & Feature: Who Would You Cast In A Movie or TV Series?

FOLLOW ME FRIDAYHappy Follow and Feature, everyone! The long and short of it, life is crazy and reading is my life, basically. Go visit Parajunkee's View or Allison Can Read, to get the details on how to follow and have fun with everyone else. It's all about meeting new people, finding new blogs to follow, and basically just having a lot of fun.

This week the two awesome features are Mercurial Musings and Owl Tell You All About ItThese two girls are just as awesomesauce as their blogs, so definitely show them some love! :D

THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK

"What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?"

THE CHEMICAL GARDEN TRILOGY BY LAUREN DESTEFANO I don't usually like to see books adapted to film or become a television show. But, if I had to choose a series or book to be made into a movie, it would have to be Wither by Lauren deStefano. It would be amazing to see the dark gothic twisted carnivals, filled with their girls in glitter, and rusty merry-go-rounds. Plus, the gritty storyline, the danger, and seeing Rhine and Gabriel breaking out of the mansion and then being on the run always having to look over their shoulders and make life altering decisions, would be epic.

CLEMENCE POESY AS RHINE ELLERYClemence Poesy is the only uniquely beautiful and gifted actress, that I can honestly see taking on the role of Rhine Ellery. She has such a strange alluring beauty all her own, that I can see her pulling off overwhelming emotions such as fear, lonliness, and total despair.

She is such a wonderfully gifted and talented actress, that I were going to cast anyone in a movie of these novels, it would definitely be her. I just simply haven't found anyone quite as intriguing enough, unless it would be Amanda Seyfried, who is equally as stunning and beautiful.

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS/INFERNAL DEVICES BY CASSANDRA CLAREI would definitely love to see Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instrument series turned into a movie. It's such an interesting other-world, downworld full of intriguing character's, dangerous peril, and shiny magic. Emphasis on the "shiny". I'm not exactly sure who I would cast as Clary, she's a bit of a hard one for me. Because, all of the younger actresses that I've looked at so far, have been well...a little too young and fresh faced. Plus, I don't want to go over a certain age limit, because I want her to appear the ass-kicking awesomely fierce character that she is.

ADAM LAMBERT AS MAGNUS BANEBut, I do know who I would cast as the super shiny amazing Magnus Bane. There is only one person who I've always had in mind, who could ever really do this truly fantastic character justice...Adam Lambert. Oh, yes! My boy. Or well...both of "my boys" kind of melted into one. Tell me you can see this. You know you can, right?! lol. Gah! They're both so pretty.

Magnus looked amused. "I was surprised when I got Sebastian's message this morning," he said. "Saying he was doing you a favor, no less. How did you wind up meeting him?"

"He's a cousin of some friends of the Lightwoods or something. He's nice, I promise."

"Nice, bah. He's gorgeous." Magnus gazed dreamily in his direction. "You should leave him here. I could hang hats on him and things."

"No. You can't have him."

"Why not? Do you like him?" Magnus's eyes gleamed. "He seems to like you. I saw him going for your hand out there like a squirrel diving for a peanut."

Book Review: Fever by Lauren deStefano

FEVER BY LAUREN DESTEFANOFever
By Lauren deStefano
Publisher: Simon&Schuster
Publish Date: February 21, 2012
Format: Hardback, pp 352
Age Demographic: Young Adult
b&n // amazon

“Our footprints emerge from the ocean, like ghosts are roaming the beach. I like that. We are the ghosts of sunken countries. We were once explorers when the world was full, in a past life, and now we're back from the dead.” (pp's 1 & 2)

Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

*Summary taken from Goodreads.

❝My Thoughts❞

Fever is a dark, thrilling, and captivating dystopian world full of beautiful thought provoking images. The dying girls covered in glitter has a magical way of putting readers right inside the carnavals described in brilliant rich detail with their rusty old merry-go-rounds. It is a gut-wrenching emotional rollercoaster, that is phenomenally gripping and action packed. It does a wonderful job, picking up where Wither left off. Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but not necessarily the danger that follows them wherever they seem to run to.

De Stefano does a brilliant job of painting a stark picture of deep-seeded fear, overwhelming hopelessness, and incredible danger that both Rhine and Gabriel must face. When faced with a heart wrenching decision of whether her freedom is worth more than she has to lose, Rhine must decide between head and heart under some pretty extraoridinarly overwhelming conditions. She does so, with an amazing wealth of strength and graceful courage. Her voice is incredibly strong and possesses this melodic quality that has the ability of putting readers in a trance with it. Fever is a highly charged emotionally bold story that is often times realistically dark and gritty. It is a uniquely interesting and cleverly written novel, where de Stefano has created a terrifying world of dark compelling beauty and short life spans where women only live until they are twenty and men survive until their twenty-fifth year.

Filled with action-packed danger lurking around every corner, creatively clever story arcs that will leave readers engaged til' the last page has been read, and heart-pounding romance on the way to freedom Fever is sure to be one of the most compelling reads in 2012. De Stefano possesses this uncanny ability to draw her readers in with strong imagery, beautiful prose that's almost lyrical at best, fascinating world building that she expounds on further in the second installment of her Chemical Garden trilogy, and richly developed characters that experiences exponential growth with each novel that follows. Fever is a deeply conflicted and compelling tale of danger and survival. It's about the lengths one would go to in order topursue their personal choice of freedom and what they will risk, no matter the cost - life or death. It will leave reader's breathless and wanting more.
