Book Blitz featuring The Monster Within by Kelly Hashway with Excerpt&Giveaway

I am excited to get to be a part of the book blitz for The Monster Within by Kelly Hashway, she's definitely one of my favorite young adult authors to read. I've read the first book in her Touch of Death series and I can't wait to finish it, because I really enjoyed it. She's got a knack for writing witty characters who are strong and spunky too. So, naturally, I'm all excited for this book too!

The moment seventeen-year-old Samantha Thompson crawls out of her grave, her second chance at life begins. She died of cancer with her long-time boyfriend, Ethan, by her side—a completely unfair shot at life. But Ethan found a way to bring her back, like he promised he would. Only Sam came back wrong.

She's now a monster that drains others' lives to survive. And after she kills, she’s tortured by visions—glimpses into her victims would-have-been futures had she not killed them. Barely able to live with herself and trying to make things right, Sam ends up a pawn in a vicious game of payback within the local coven of witches.

But when the game reveals what Ethan had to do to save Sam, she must make a choice that will change all their lives forever.

The car stopped, and Ethan’s hand slipped from mine. I turned to him, blinking against the fluorescent lights of the gas station.

“Sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to wake you. I just needed to get some gas and a few things from the convenience store. There’s no food at the cottage. I thought I’d grab some crackers and soda. Stuff like that. I’ll even see if they have black licorice for you. I know you love it.”

I nodded and started for my seat belt.

“No. You stay.” Ethan opened his door and stepped outside. I let my hair fall across my shoulders, trying to warm myself against the night air. “I’ll be right back.”

The trunk opened, and a moment later, Ethan opened my door, handing me one of his sweatshirts. “Here, you look cold.”

I smiled. “Thanks.” He knew me so well. I watched him walk inside the store and heard the soft click of the car locking again. He wasn’t taking any chances with me. I knew he’d protect me from anything. He’d already protected me from death. He was my every- thing now. I would never see my family or friends again. I had to start over. The thought terrified me, but at least I had Ethan by my side.

I hugged the sweatshirt to my body. I was too tired to actually put it on, and, this way I could breathe in Ethan’s scent while I kept warm. I inhaled deeply at first, and then my breaths became shallow, which was weird considering how tired I felt. I yawned. Exhaustion overwhelmed me. Apparently it took a lot of energy to return from the dead.

I leaned my head on the window, hoping the cool glass would keep me awake, but my head spun, making me dizzy. My arms and legs tingled with the sensation of pins and needles. I felt like I had a million spiders crawling all over me. I threw the sweatshirt off me and onto the floor. My arms were bare. No spiders. But the feeling didn’t go away. I panicked. The walls of the car were caving in on me. The air around me was tight, strangling me.

I searched the convenience store windows for Ethan, but all I saw was a guy in a cowboy hat, and a woman taking her little boy to the bathroom. Where was Ethan? The lightheadedness was getting worse—more intense. My breathing was labored. In a panic, I reached for the door handle. It took me a moment to remember it was locked, but when I finally got it open, I stumbled out of the car into the fresh air. I gulped oxygen into my lungs, hoping it would make me feel better, but it didn’t.

I was suffocating. Life was draining out of me. I collapsed to my knees, skinning them against the pavement. Wheezing, I crawled forward, trying to reach the convenience store door. Trying to reach Ethan. I needed help. I didn’t know what was happening to me, but it felt like I was dying...again.

Book Blitz for PODs by Michelle Pickett

Guys, I'm excited!
Why am I excited? I'll tell you, it's because I get to talk about a book that's been on my TBR list radar for quite some while now, shamelessly I might add since Spencer Hill Press was nice enough to send me an ARC of it for review, which will be read and reviewed this year for sure! I had so much that I had to get to last year and there were THINGS that came up that kind of got in the way of it, but I am super thrilled to be bringing this to you today on the blog. It's a little promotional post talking about how awesome this book is, introducing the author to you guys, and a giveaway because EVERYONE likes giveaways! lol.
So, really, you guys should check out this book with me!

PODs
Release Date: 06/24/13
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Paperback/ebook
312 pages

Seventeen-year-old Eva is a chosen one. Chosen to live, while others meet a swift and painful death from an incurable virus so lethal, a person is dead within days of symptoms emerging. In the POD system, a series of underground habitats built by the government, she waits with the other chosen for the deadly virus to claim those above. Separated from family and friends, it's in the PODs she meets David. And while true love might not conquer all, it's a balm for the broken soul.

After a year, scientists believe the population has died, and without living hosts, so has the virus. That's the theory, anyway. But when the PODs are opened, survivors find the surface holds a vicious secret. The virus mutated, infecting those left top-side and creating... monsters.

Eva and David hide from the infected in the abandoned PODs. Together they try to build a life--a new beginning. But the infected follow and are relentless in their attacks. Leaving Eva and David to fight for survival, and pray for a cure.

Praise for the Amazon
Bestselling PODs:
"5 Stars!
loved this book. I have been kind of bogged down with dystopias lately, but this was amazing. It was so cool to see life before the 'event', to see Eva wrestle with her choices and then, to watch her change as she lived inside the PODs...Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there's a little romance. But I think, at its heart, PODs is a coming of age story about Eva and how she grows from a girl into a strong, decisive woman during this period of absolute destruction. And Pickett writes it beautifully." ~ Sherry Ficklin, author of "Extracted"

"I was blown away by this debut novel from Michelle Pickett! Rather than feeling like I was reading a book, I actually sometimes felt like I was actually watching the characters' lives progress; it was kind of weird! The emotions that Eva felt were so raw and real, and I think Michelle really captured the emotions that one would be feeling in a post-apocalyptic world...PODs may very well be one of the next big things in YA, so I am very happy to have been one of the ones that was part of the beginning of it all! Congrats Michelle on your YA debut and I am looking forward to more by you!
I gave PODs a well-deserved 5/5 stars!"
~Phil book reviewer at Stack of Hardbacks

glowing, sparkling stars for this one!...I absolutely adored every character Michelle introduces us to. This book isn't just about a romance, or two people fighting some battle. This book allows us to get to know several, amazing, diverse characters who all grab your heart (even a few who have attitude issues). They all held such an important place in the story… Now for the plot. Holy crap!... Michelle did a flippin' fantastic job giving us each piece of this puzzle… I won't go into details about what happens after they are removed from the POD but O-M-G! The action never stops…This book seriously needs to be a movie. I could picture every detail and already see it playing out on screen.
PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!”

About the Author:
I'm a wife, mother, author, reader, although not always in that order.  I write young adult urban fantasies, science/fiction and paranormal romances and have recently started dabbling in young adult contemporary romance. Reading was one of my earliest passions, writing soon followed. I began writing seriously during college where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. Why I chose a career that frowns on creativity remains a mystery.

I’m addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups and eat way too many while I write, have an abnormal obsession with hoodies and can’t write without one, and I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television. An unabashed romantic, I love a swoon-worthy ending that will give me butterflies for days.

I wrote my debut young adult novel, PODs, in 2011. PODs, a science/fiction, post-apocalyptic romance, will be released June 4, 2013 through the amazing Spencer Hill Press.  My second young adult title, Milayna, a paranormal romance, will release through Spencer Hill Press beginning in March 2014. Milayna is a standalone, with series potential. It’s meant to be a trilogy. The Infected, a PODs novel, will release November 2014. It is the second, and last, book in the PODs series.

I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.  I now reside in a small community outside Houston, Texas with my incredibly supportive, not to mention gorgeous, husband, three amazing school-aged children, a 125-pound lap dog, and a snooty cat.

Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.

However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

Dying Sucks!!! For real this time.

Jennifer Armentrout never fails to amaze me with her brilliancy in creating a vibrant world full of intriguing mystery and intelligently written world building skills woven into the very fabric of her stories. The imagery alone is astounding, as is the intense emotion that she packs into many of her wonderfully memorable characters. The integrity of the stories they have to tell are never compromised and are always blended in so flawlessly, that I usually find myself in awe of the world that she has created. For me, personally, getting the chance to read a book written by Jennifer Armentrout is almost like being in the presence of the Holy Grail, that is how incredibly talented I believe she is. That's why, when I was afforded the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of Cursed, a brand new world that she has uniquely and originally created, I was more than a little ecstatic.

The world of Cursed may be vastly different from that of her Covenant Series, but it is just as imaginable and uniquely cultivated. It is a spirited story filled with intense intriguing emotion, mystery, and a thrilling dark macabre world. The character development is outstanding and her characters are richly complex and captivating in so many ways that make them interesting and likable. Some are easy to connect with, while others remain a bit of mystery, but that's the beauty in who they are and the story they have to tell. They possess hidden realistic flaws that make them exciting to read about and discover who they are, exactly.

Ember is a complex and complicated character that shines on the pages. I found her to be quite relatable on many levels, as she possesses a few flaws and quirks of her own. She's different than most characters that I've read about before, with her physical scars and death's touch. It definitely made her an interesting character to get to know. Her quick fire temper and her ability to be as resourceful as she is at times are the two things that I most identified with, as I was reading Cursed. Her intelligence, wit, and beautifully fragile and heartwarming relationship that she shares with her sister, Olivia, were incredibly charming and sweet as well. Ember is definitely a character that anyone would be lucky to have in their corner; I know that I'd love to have her in mine. She would make a pretty amazing friend and sidekick to pal around with.

Hayden, on the other hand, is a beautifully dark, mysterious, and complex character full of so much depth and layers that make him intriguing. Readers will definitely find themselves swooning over his handsome dark presence. The potentially dangerous vibe that Jennifer Armentrout cultivates, is used amazingly well and lends his character so much quality and appeal. He isn't unlikable or scary and I think that's the thing that makes him the most appealing to audiences, as well as intriguing. Cromwell is a different matter all together, though. He's what I would call, a bit of a conflicting character, of sorts. While I was curious and intrigued by his steely nature, another part of me felt a bit of a creepy vibe eminating from him where he was concerned. He came across as this mysterious smug individual that just didn't really sit well with me.

The relationship that slowly develops between Ember and Hayden over time was beautiful and incredibly touching. Armentrout did an amazing job of exploring such an honest and realistic romance shared between the two. It's beautifully illustrated and emotionally tangible, sweet, and tender in such a raw understated way that comes across in such as honest and relatable. These two are addictive and incredibly easy to fall in love with. Readers will find themselves rooting for the two of them, I have absolutely no doubts.

The twists and revelations, along with the mystery and intrigue help to create a wonderful enthralling story that is sure to captivate any reader. Cursed is a highly entertaining and richly dark compelling story that is bound to have anyone on the edge of their seat. This book will leave you breathless and anticipating more. Jennifer Armentrout doesn't disappoint! Cursed is such an exciting world to dive into and become absorbed in the pages and become wrapped up inside the character's and the stories they have to tell. It is incredibly un-put-downable!

Pure Blog Tour: Featuring Review and Giveaway!!!

Valerie over at Stuck In Books arranged this EPIC AMAZING book tour for the next incredible book in Jennifer Armentrout's Covenant series, PURE. And the best part is, that I get to be a part of it. So, I have a couple of things for you today, first is a book review for PURE and the second is a giveaway of some swag related items to the Covenant series.

First...the review.

Pure
by Jennifer Armentrout
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Expected Publication: April 2, 2012
Pages: 320
Age Demographic: Young Adult
amazon | b&n

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

* Summary taken from Goodreads.

❝My Thoughts❞

Pure is filled with amazing heart pounding action, mystery, and intrigue. The plot thickens wonderfully, the characters are more developed, and Armentrout expounds on new mythology that involves furies with killer instinct bred into them and horrendous barbaric Covenant politics. Need and fate, seem to be two reocurring themes in this adventure filled novel. The world and mythology that Armentrout continues to craftily build, is vivid with blazing imagery, beautifully inspired by Greek mythos with such an original flare that gives it an amazing modern edge.

It is just so intensely gripping and compelling, that it will leave readers breathless in anticipation of what's to happen next. It's crazy emotional, filled with shocking twists and turns, that are completely unexpected. So much more territory is explored and readers are treated to such a tantalizing and breath taking love triangle taking place between Aiden, Alex, and Seth. Armentrout has written the perfect balance of romance and humor, in the midst of all of the chaos, action, and imminent danger. It will have leave readers wondering who they would like to see Alex actually end up with.

Alex is even more amazing, ballsy, and kickass than ever before. She's such a super amazing character filled with so much strength, resilience, and an incredibly feisty attitude. She's a stubborn fighter who absolutely refuses to be taken down or bow to the whim of the barbaric rules the Covenant insists on shoving at her. With no regard for rules and not afraid to stand up to the pure bloods in any away, she is extraordinarily kickass. Even more so, than in Half-Blood, and it's incredibly fun to watch her in action.

Alex has to train with Seth to catch up on her fighting skills, so that she can protect herself and other's from daimons. Seth is such a swoon worthy, arrogant, determined, and somewhat sensitive character in his own way. For me, personally, he's one of the greater highlights of the novel. It is so interesting getting to know Seth and more about him, witnessing how much he cares about Alex, and proving that he's always going to be there for her. He's definitely made his feelings known and it's wonderful to see the connection between him and Alex slowly build throughout the book. It's amazingly developed and takes place during the smaller moments and a couple of bigger ones later on. Alex, of course, continues to discourage him because her heart is with Aiden.

Aiden, on the other hand, is a pure blood and it's not permitted that they mix with anyone who isn't. This is part of the reason he keeps Alex at arms length a good portion of the time. Alex, will sacrfice a lot for him and he will do the same for her, showing how much he does in fact care a great deal for her. He's torn between his loyalty and what he actually wants. He really is a fantastic character and definitely worthy of her heart, but I can't help but wonder.

Pure is such an epicly driven, emotional roller coaster of compelling action, super intriguing mystery, and breath taking romance that will set anyone on fire. It sparks life and love, duty and loyalty, destiny and life altering decisions. It will not disappoint and will keep reader's engaged and on the edge of their seats until the last page has been turned.
