14 Days of Fictional Swooning: Favorite Bookish Boys + Giveaway

So, Meg @ Swoony Boys Podcast and Jaime @ Fiction Fare go together and came up with this awesome Valentine inspired Blog Hop! Guys, this is going to be so much fun, you totally don't want to miss out on this. For the next fourteen days there's going to be giveaway's, fun bookish related things, and a scavenger hunt going on. Yep, lots of goodness is going down!

Make sure you check out all of the blogs and visit them each day, because they're all going to have A LOT of fun and exciting things going on, plus they are going to each be hosting their own giveaway in conjunction with the main giveaway that's already being hosted as part of this EPIC blog hop full of bookish love and tons of fun.

What's up with the Scavenger Hunt?! This is the part that I think is probably the most fun thing going on during these fourteen days. Not only do you get to check out everyone's blog posts, but you also get to participate and potentially win a grand prize. The girl's from each blog are offering a tour wide giveaway that will consist of some pretty awesome things like a $20 Amazon gift card, a beautiful book related bracelet, and some super swanky Valentine's swag.

All you really have to do is visit each blog that's participating, collect and jot down the hidden words/phrases (these will be marked in a certain way that it'll be super duper for you to find them), and the most important thing of all: make sure that you enter the complete quote in the Rafflecopter at the end of the hop to earn extra entries. There were so many blogs that wanted to participate in this awesome tour these gals put together, so there will be two quotes. So, that's like double the chances that you have. GOOD LUCK!

I thought for this giveaway, I would have two winners and keep it open Internationally, so that everyone had a chance. And, what I'm giving away are two eCopies of Breaking Nova by the incredibly talented Jessica Sorensen, since I feel completely head over toes in love with Quinton Carter and I hope that you will too. He's an amazingly fucked up, complicated, and extremely intense guy who feels like he doesn't have the right to live and Nova is just as messed up and complicated as he is in her own way, but together these two are just simply irresistibly amazing. They just fall into one another so hard, that it's hard to for them not to let the guilt eat them up in their own separate ways.
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Dear Jessica,
"You seem" like you are an amazingly talented author that I've had no problems falling in love with your books. From the Nova series to the Coincidence series, I can't seem to get enough of your beautiful emotionally intense stories. I want to recommend them to anyone and pretty much everyone that I come into contact with you. Thank you, for giving me such a wonderfully deliciously messed up and complicated book boyfriend like Quinton Carter to drool over. You've completely made my year!

Book Review: Beta by Rachel Cohn

Beta by Rachel Cohn
Published: October 16, 2012
Publisher: Hyperion Book CH
Age Demographic: YA Sci-Fi Dystopia
Pages: 336

Elysia is created in a laboratory, born as a sixteen-year-old girl, an empty vessel with no life experience to draw from. She is a Beta, an experimental model of a teenage clone. She was replicated from another teenage girl, who had to die in order for Elysia to exist.

Elysia’s purpose is to serve the inhabitants of Demesne, an island paradise for the wealthiest people on earth. Everything about Demesne is bioengineered for perfection. Even the air induces a strange, euphoric high, which only the island’s workers—soulless clones like Elysia—are immune to.

At first, Elysia’s life is idyllic and pampered. But she soon sees that Demesne’s human residents, who should want for nothing, yearn. But for what, exactly? She also comes to realize that beneath the island’s flawless exterior, there is an undercurrent of discontent among Demesne’s worker clones. She knows she is soulless and cannot feel and should not care—so why are overpowering sensations clouding Elysia’s mind?

If anyone discovers that Elysia isn’t the unfeeling clone she must pretend to be, she will suffer a fate too terrible to imagine. When her one chance at happiness is ripped away with breathtaking cruelty, emotions she’s always had but never understood are unleashed. As rage, terror, and desire threaten to overwhelm her, Elysia must find the will to survive.

The first in a dazzlingly original science fiction series from best-selling author Rachel Cohn, Beta is a haunting, unforgettable story of courage and love in a corrupted world.

Beta is an incredibly intriguining book, that will grab reader's attention immediately and hold it until the last page has been read. It is one of the most interesting and original sci-fi dystopian based books that I've read in a while. Rachel Cohn pens such an incredibly edgey story full of many questions, mysteries, and wonderfully developed characters. There are shocking secrets to be discovered, surprises in store, and so much more that will wow readers and keep them dancing on the edge of their seats. There is also wonderful adventure and romance, danger and suspense involved in this delicious story that make it unputdownable.

Beta has some truly brilliant unexpected elements that are explored within the story. The fact that the story being told is mostly original, is pretty spectacular in itself. Reader's won't see what's coming or what to expect, as they're reading the book, which will make for an even more interesting journey and reading experience. Elysia is a truly fantastic heroine that is incredibly likable and not the easiest to connect with, at first. She's the first of her kind, in a teenage clone line. So, it's only natural that she would have questions of her own and want to figure out the answers to them. One of the best things about her, is her journey to becoming more human and the fact that she's brave enough to be willing to die for her beliefs. This makes her a strong character, that can be admired.

Beta is full of surprises that readers will find themselves enamored with. While the romance is sweet and charming, I did personally find it to be a bit of insta-love, which isn't one of my favorite elements in a book. There was also an instance where it felt like I switched from reading Beta to a moment where I felt like I was experiencing Twilight de ja vu all over again, with the "imprinting" bit that was introduced. I wished Cohn would have been a little more creative as far as that concept goes. I also wish that there would have been a little bit more background and knowledge explored involving the Water Wars, than there was.

Over-all, Beta was an incredibly tense drama, adventure filled book that will definitely appeal to most sci-fi and dystopian fans. It's a wonderfully engaging and captivating novel, despite its few flaws. I would definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy dystopia and science fiction novels.

Guest Post: Dream Casting Characters for Meeting Destiny by Nancy Straight

Dream Casting & Excerpt for Meeting Destiny
by: Nancy Straight

LAURENHis words made my heart soar, my whole body felt warm and my heart rate began steadily gaining speed. Knowing how badly this visit could have gone, I couldn’t help but push my luck, “Max, I need to ask you one more thing. Could you stay just another minute?”

MAXMax glanced at the watch on his wrist, and I could tell he really did need to leave. “Yeah, but I’ve already been gone for way too long. My partner’s got to be looking for me by now.” He moved a hair closer to me, and I could hardly contain my excitement.

SETH“I know this isn’t the best place, and I understand if you tell me no, but if I don’t ask, it’s going to drive me crazy. I was wondering if you feel anything weird around me?” This sounded so strange, but I didn’t know how best to articulate my question. I needed to know if it was only my imagination.

AMANDAMax looked me straight in the eye, “Weird, like what?”

I felt the flush of embarrassment on my cheeks as I asked quietly, “Like, chemistry, a little?”

RACHELMax stood still as a statue staring at me sitting almost straight up in my bed. His smile faded a little as he leaned into me and whispered, “You mean like this?” He softly slid his hand behind my head, pulling my lips up to his. Gentle at first, then increased intensity until I found that I had wrapped both my arms around him, wires protruding from every direction, and my entire body tingled. I grew lightheaded as he eased his face away from mine. He gently lowered my head back to my pillow and moved his hand to my face. Max traced my lips with his index finger. After a few outlines of my lips, he responded quietly, “Chemistry, huh? No, I hadn’t noticed.” His wide smile reappeared with a vengeance.

PAULMy heart monitor went crazy, jumping well into the 100s as an alarm blared to life as if to tell the world what had just happened. Max reached over and pushed a button on the monitor and the alarm muted instantly. As he leaned in for what I was sure was going to be just as passionate as our first kiss, his pocket beeped.

REWSNAMax stopped, rolled his eyes and fished in his pocket, pulling out his blackberry. He looked at the screen with disappointment in his eyes. “Hey, we just got a call. I really have to go. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for continuing this conversation tomorrow, but I really can’t stay.”

“I’d like that, too,” unable to say anything else.

LAUREN'S MOMHe kissed my cheek, “I can’t wait to tell Missy about tonight. Bye.” Max darted out the door as he sprinted off to save someone’s life. The jealous part of me hoped he was being called to help an old fat man.
